Joan Rye - Freelance Writer and illustrator

About me

I was born and bred in the valleys of South Wales, near the childhood home of the famous Welsh singer Tom Jones. Creative energy has run through my veins my whole life. I have been creating artwork and writing poems and short stories since the age of six and writing/editing reports, articles and technical documentation for twenty years.

Experience

In my first employment with the Welsh Development Agency, from 1988 to 1992, I developed and strengthened my skills in research, technical and report writing/editing. I carried out research of developmental areas in Wales, and interviews by telephone, reported the facts in well-written, detailed reports, to Project Managers and the Board of Directors, and created easy to understand, public information documents.

During my employment with Cardiff County Council, from 1992 to 2000, I further advanced my skills, carrying out research of the social housing sector in Wales, and writing reports for Councillors and Members of Parliament. I then joined a Medical Practice in 2000, and used my expertise, carrying out medical research, writing reports for medical staff, and converting medical information into easy to understand documentation for patients.

I became a Freelance Writer and Artist in 2004 and I love the freedom and diversity, of writing about many different topics and the ability to use my artistic talent and abilities.
